HypnoBirthing® developed from the techniques of an English physician, Dr Grantly Dick-Read. He was a pioneer in the field of natural childbirth, and his principles are the foundation of the National Childbirth Trust (NCT).
HypnoBirthing® was originally established in the United States by Marie Mongan. Her book "HypnoBirthing® - A Celebration of Life" was first published in 1989 and you can read more about her at the main UK site www.hypnobirthing.co.uk The UK version of the book was published in April 2007.
Classes have been run in the US for nearly 20 years, and now the HypnoBirthing® methods are being taught here in the UK.
What about hypnosis for childbirth?
There are other hypnotherapists offering various kinds of childbirth sessions, but HypnoBirthing® is much more than that. HypnoBirthing® is a complete birth education programme.
Most other "hypnosis for childbirth" programmes teach you how to ’mask’ the pain. HypnoBirthing® teaches you that with deep relaxation, which we explain and teach, pain is not a necessary part of birth.
What will you learn
- Fear release techniques to overcome any anxiety about birth
- Self-hypnosis to induce deep relaxation whilst remaining totally present and in control.
- Massage techniques to release endorphins, your body's own natural anaesthetic.
- Breathing techniques for relaxation and the birth itself.
- Visualisation exercises and affirmations to keep you grounded, serene and positive.
